What do you tell yourself about possibility every day?
The narrative that runs in your mind, the flowing, seamless story you tell yourself about who you are, where you are, what you’re doing and (unfortunately) where you “stack up” relative to other people (the world of measurement is truly a messy place to live – that’s a subject for another post) ultimately defines you.
Simply put, what you tell yourself, about yourself, becomes reality for you.
Most of us realize this at one point or another in our lives. We read it somewhere, or it comes in the form of sage advice from a friend or colleague. Our response usually goes something like this:
“Yeah sure okay I’ll start saying positive things for my own benefit to grow and be happy and manifest that which I seek uh huh etc. etc.”
Kind of half-hearted belief in this metaphysical idea of self-empowerment. The sad thing is, even this half-hearted statement benefits us, if only we remembered to do it, every day (I myself am guilty of frequently forgetting this form of self-care).
Speaking of which, this isn’t a guilt trip or an exercise in shame. It’s an exercise in accepting and embracing possibility.
Your narrative, this story your tell yourself every day, defines your mental state, which opens (or closes) the door to achievement which (hopefully) harmonizes into spiritual growth (however you define spiritual is up to you, for me it’s not a religious spirituality, it’s a balance-in-the-world spirituality).
So the point of all of this is the following:
Imagine what possibilities await when you include in your flowing, daily narrative, that story you tell yourself, the simple phrases;
“I love you,”
“I forgive you,”
“I see you,”
and “thank you.”
